Top 5 Twice Songs
Often regarded as the “Nation’s (Korea) Girl Group,” Twice has a variety of songs. Each one of their albums has high points of success, and this is mostly attributed to the quality of production that goes into their title tracks. Each of them is talented in their own specific ways, and each is unique in their own way.
They are legends in the K-Pop community, and they have played an integral part in the Hallyu Wave. The third generation of girl groups will be one day looked back on, and the name Twice will always appear. Below is The Boba Culture’s Top 5 Twice Songs.
5) Signal
“Signal” is a song about trying to send “signals” to someone whose attention you just can’t get. JYP wrote and produced this one, and the payoff received from it was plentiful. “Signal” was a true smash of 2017 as it took home Song Of The Year and Best Dance Performance (for a female group) at MAMA 2017.
In the M/V, each of the members has their own unique power, and they use this power to get an alien’s attention. While there is much to be said about the video, the song almost sounds like two separate tracks.
The beginning and ending of the song sound very different than what the actual song sounds like. This duality provides depth, not only to the song, but to Twice themselves. I mean, their name is Twice after all.
4) TT
“TT” is the title track from Twice’s third EP — TWICEcoaster : LANE 1. Although the M/V has a Halloween theme, the song isn’t very spooky at all. In fact, the song is quite the opposite. “Upbeat” and “jumpy” are two words that come to mind when thinking of “TT.”
A “bubblegum electro-pop” song is exactly what “TT” is, and it’s not scared to show it. The title itself is meant to be a cute way to display a “crying face” over text message. The M/V for this song is currently Twice’s most viewed music video with over 460,000,000 views on YouTube (190619).
Produced by the decorated producers of Black Eyed Pilsueng, “TT” is another hit song in their long list of hits. It’s a simple song lyrically, as it is about a girl who has a crush. It’s the choreography that makes “TT” memorable, and the M/V so watchable.
3) Fancy
“Fancy” is Twice’s first comeback of 2019, and it exemplifies how Twice is capable of pulling off different concepts. Twice is known to have a signature “bubblegum pop” sound, but “Fancy” delves into a different realm of pop.
It’s more mature than their other hits, and the M/V does not follow a linear plot. It’s an electro pop hit, and it is the title track of their 7th EP. “Fancy” is a fresh look at the veteran group as they switch up their style. Even though this song is very different than their others, it still features many “Twice-ey” elements.
Choreographed by Kiel Tutin, “Fancy” is a song with strong emphasis on its “key points.” It’s hard to hear this song without seeing the dance moves that go along with it. “Fancy” is the prime example of Twice’s duality.
2) Likey
Irresistible, inescapable, unavoidable. “Likey” is the quintessential Twice song that everybody seems to know. Yes, every song they release is a hit, but “Likey” is different. In the K-Pop world, every song needs to have a good beat, a catchy hook, amazing visuals, and eye-catching choreo. “Likey” is that song for Twice.
Even if you don’t like this song, I guarantee that the hook of this song will be stuck in your head. Likey’s choreography is something that K-Pop fans know as common knowledge. It’s impossible to sit still while listening to this song.
“Likey” is the title track on Twice’s first studio album — twicetagram. Twice is a group that will be remembered for as long as the K-Pop industry exists, and this is one of the songs that people will remember them by. “Likey” is exactly what K-Pop is meant to be.
Honorable Mentions
Cheer Up
Twice’s first major hit, and it’s a crowd favorite in Korea. You might never hear a crowd get louder than they get when Sana sings her “shy, shy, shy” line!
Heart Shaker
Catchy, happy, “isanghage”. Liking someone can make your heart go crazy, and it make you look a little weird. According to this song, that weirdness doesn’t matter.
1) What Is Love?
What is love? Life’s most open ended question. This song is at number one on this list because it hits the four major points of K-Pop (visuals, choreography, hook, beat), and it poses an innocent question: What is love? Produced by JYP, this song was destined to be a hit, but there’s a certain feeling to it that makes “What Is Love” a special song.
In this song, Twice views the concept of love with much innocence. As displayed in the M/V, love is only something that Twice has experienced in the movies. They want to know what love feels like, and they want to know “How it’s like flying in the sky.”
At MAMA 2018, “What Is Love” took home Song Of The Year, and they also gave one of the best live performances of the song, ever. The question “what is love” has many answers, and instead of answering it head on, Twice yearns to feel it. This song encapsulates just that.
End of 2019 edit: Let’s not forget about Feel Special and the way it makes Once “feel special.” #weloveyouMina
