Red Velvet Songs Ranked: 'The ReVe Festival' Day 2
Red Velvet’s ‘The ReVe Festival’ (Day 1 & 2) have proven to be great examples of what the quintet is capable of. Both their “Red” and “Velvet” sides, respectively, give off distinct feelings displaying their dancing abilities, and silky vocals.
Before I list which songs I liked best off of ‘The ReVe Festival’ Day 2, I want to state that I think the album is very good all around. Red Velvet has a very strong title in ‘Umpah Umpah’, and the other five songs are very well done too. In fact, I don’t even think the album has a bad song on it.
Despite each of the songs being great, my personal preference always draws me closer to certain songs more than others. Below I have listed each of the songs in my least to most favorite order.
It’s a tough list to compile because the album is very well rounded, but without further ado…
‘The ReVe Festival’ Day 2, Ranked
6) Jumpin’
I am 100% sure that this song will be a crowd favorite if they ever perform it live. It’s fun, and a prime example of their “Red” side. They call Red Velvet the “summer queens” and 'Jumpin’' satisfies just that. It’s a song for summer parties, and it’s really catchy.
The reason I have it at number six on this list comes down to personal preference. As I mentioned before, there are songs on this album that hit me differently.
5) Carpool
An extremely punchy beat. Due to the fact that its instrumental hits so hard in some parts, I can’t help but feel like I was “left hanging” in some places. However, this is made up for in the hook/chorus as it’s something that I can really see myself humming to in the future.
There is nothing better than the music dropping, and hearing Red Velvet’s vocals shine through. I can hear myself singing along to this one in a carpool, literally.
4) Umpah Umpah
When I listen to both “Day 1 and Day 2” in order, I can’t help but think that “Day 1” is meant to represent the daytime, and “Day 2” represents the the night time. 'Umpah Umpah' is that time right before sunset.
In the M/V, Red Velvet finds a way to have fun indoors while it rains outdoors. It’s one that’ll be stuck in my head for a while, and in typical Red Velvet fashion, it features fun choreo for all Reveluvs to learn. 'Umpah Umpah' is one for books, and it’s a solid title song.
3) Love Is The Way
Red Velvet takes on doo-wop? 'Love Is The Way' is an interesting song because I’ve never really heard Red Velvet’s vocals on a track that sounds like this. It’s a head bopper, and you could totally hear it at your nearest milkshake diner. 'Love Is The Way' has that “muted pink” vibe, and I really like it.
Reminiscent of early Meghan Trainor, 'Love Is The Way' gives off a different look at Red Velvet, and it calls for everybody’s attention. On my social media feeds, I saw many people saying this song is like RV’s version of Girls Generations’ 'Lion Heart'. While I definitely hear the similarities, 'Love Is The Way' belongs solely to Red Velvet.
2) Ladies Night
In a similar way that 'Love Is The Way' shows off another side of Red Velvet, 'Ladies Night' exudes retro vibes from beginning to end. Have you ever been to a roller rink in the 80’s? Me neither. But if I had ever been to one, this is the type of song I would hear there.
'Ladies Night' has major disco influences, but Red Velvet twists it in a way that best suits them. Their vocals truly sound like velvet when singing the chorus, and when they harmonize together, it’s easy to find yourself lost in the song. At about the 3:29 mark in the song, those retro Red Velvet picture edits popped into my head, and they really looked to be a reality!
1) Eyes Locked, Hands Locked
'Eyes Locked, Hands Locked' is the perfect send off to a two day trip at the ReVe Festival. It’s a 90’s R&B slow jam that hits all the required beats to be deemed so. This is the only song on the album that I truly feel was created with the “Velvet” in mind. Once again, RV comes through with the silky smooth vocals on the hook, and I can’t get the tune out of my head.
This song shows off a familiar version of Red Velvet, but it feels so refreshing to hear it done the way it was. This is a song from another time and somehow, it feels so new. It’s a style that not many other girl groups are touching on, so I was pleasantly surprised when I first heard it. I’ll go as far to say this song is my favorite off both 'The ReVe Festival' Days 1 & 2. This is the one for me.
That being said, I still think that 'The ReVe Festival' Day 2 is an album worth listening to from beginning to end. All the songs are great in their own right, and I hope that people can see it the same way.
While both “Day 1 & Day 2” feature concepts that are very creative and unique, “Day 2” feels like an album that spans an even broader variety of genres. One song can paint a totally different image than the next. This is something that makes Red Velvet a top girl group, and this is exactly why they have stayed at the top for so long.
Red Velvet continues to reinvent their image with each comeback, and with the success that 'The ReVe Festival' continues to find, I’ll be eagerly waiting for the next one.
