Deku Goes 100% In My Hero Academia Ep. 76 'Infinite 100%' (Review)
On The Boba Culture we keep it real, and we make it fast. So let’s just get into it. (ice, milk tea, boba format)
The Ice
Episode 76 of My Hero Academia named 'Infinite 100%' starts off right where episode 75 left off. We see how Team Ryukyu comes busting through into the underground part of the Hassaikai complex.
We then see what the League of Villains have been up to. Toga has disguised herself as Deku, and they start explaining their ulterior motives, setting the stage for some League-Hassaikai rivalry beef.
The Milk Tea
Episode 76 really starts taking off when we learn what Eri’s quirk is. Her quirk was shrouded in much mystery up until this point (unless you read the manga), but we soon learn that Eri has a quirk called Rewind.
Those who are in contact or close to Eri, experience Rewind when she begins to use it. In the context of this fight, we know that her quirk is most important because it can heal injuries. (Did we also get a vocal version of You Say Run?)
Que flashback sequence. We learn that Chisaki has been developing the “drug” from Eri’s quirk, rewinding people to a “quirkless state.” He also mentions that Eri could turn a person back into a monkey if she remained in contact with them for too long; this is because of her inability to control Rewind.
The Boba
I would be doing a disservice if I didn’t talk about what happens after the “halfway point” of the episode.
After Deku learns how to use Eri’s quirk to his advantage, the man starts going buck-wild, and takes Chisaki head on.
He ties Eri to his back, and then he goes to work. We finally get to see what Midoriya looks like at 100% power, and honestly the only word I can use to describe it is: “glorious.”
Deku literally kicked Chisaki so hard that it caused a flashback sequence in mid-air. But when Chisaki wakes up, man…Izuku is looking like a true hero. No tears. Just raw power, doing what he must to protect Eri and everyone down below.
Chisaki is disassembling and reassembling limbs to take Midoriya out, and Eri back; but Deku at 100% is just too strong. In fact, they aren’t even close to being on the same level.
The art style in this sequence vaguely reminds me of Mob Psycho with the certain color palettes Studio Bones uses in the “fist image.” One might even say that seeing Deku at full power for the first time feels intimidating.
With the shot close up of Chisaki’s eye widening at the barrage of fists incoming, and Deku’s face being revealed by a shadow, the animation in this moment is quite possibly the best in all of My Hero.
As the music swells, and Midoriya rips through Chisaki like butter, I’m willing to bet that viewers all around the world left this episode with their jaws on the floor. I know I did.
Here are some reactions from Twitter
At this point in the story/season, Izuku has now defeated Chisaki, the most powerful villain he has fought alone.
The thing is, he made it look like light work. Shoutout to Eri. I can’t wait to see the rest of this season.
