Everything Important Announced At FunimationCon 2020
FunimationCon 2020 came PACKED with new information for anime lovers—especially anime lovers from the West. Loads of news and information was revealed about shows coming to Funimation later in the year, and new licenses they have gained.
Items below will cover everything IMPORTANT that was said at FunimationCon, regarding streaming and series announcements.
UZAKI-CHAN WANTS TO HANG OUT!
‘Uzaki-chan Wants To Hang Out!’ is a popular manga series that began in 2018. An anime adaptation was announced in February of 2020, and its release date set for July 10th. At FunimationCon, it was revealed that Uzaki-chan’s anime would be coming to Funimation as a part of their summer anime line-up.
LAPIS RE: LIGHTS
Lapis Re:LiGHTs will be streamed exclusively on Funimation, starting on July 4th.
NARUTO
It was confirmed that Naruto (2002) would be coming to Funimation on July 6th, to the United States and Canada. All 220 episodes of the “first series” would be able to stream on the aforementioned date. There is no word on whether Funimation has plans to gain rights to stream Shippuden anytime soon.
HIGURASHI: WHEN THEY CRY
The popular horror anime 'Higurashi: When They Cry' is getting a reboot! A trailer and English key visual was released at FunimationCon. It will be available to stream this Fall, exclusively on Funimation.
IKEBUKURO WEST GATE PARK
Kadokawa and studio Doga Kobo are working together to bring the story of 'Ikebukuro West Gate Park' to anime form! Many otakus are familiar with the title as this anime is based off a series of mystery novels that were adapted into a Japanese live-action series. Funimation will bring IWGP to their platform during the Fall season.
DEMON SLAYER: THE MOVIE - MUGEN TRAIN
Funimation and Aniplex of America have teamed up to bring 'Demon Slayer: The Movie - Mugen Train' to theaters in North America! In Japan, it is scheduled to be released in October of 2020. It is unknown when Funimation and Aniplex plan on releasing it in North America, but we can only speculate that it be sometime soon after.
AKUDAMA DRIVE
The widely popular Studio Pierrot (Naruto) have partnered with Funimation to bring an original anime—Akudama Drive—to Funimation’s platform this Fall.
Funimation describes the series like this…
“The series is in a post-war world, where the Kantou and Kansai groups faced off in Japan, dividing the country in two. As Kansai became a dependent of Kantou, governing officials and police began to lose control to an increase in the presence of criminals–Akudama.”

THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU
'The World Ends With You' anime will stream exclusively on Funimation in January 2021! For those who aren’t very familiar with this title, TWEWY is a game developed by Square Enix (Kingdom Hearts), and is now a new anime on the way.

“Follow Neku Sakuraba as he’s thrust into a video game scenario in Shibuya called Reaper’s Game that will have him fighting for his life. Along with the allies he teams up with along the way, Neku will have to make it to the end to see his humanity again.”

ATTACK ON TITAN: CHRONICLE
'Attack On Titan: Chronicle' is a recap film meant to encompass all three season of Attack On Titan, ending just before the events of the fourth and final season. The film has been licensed by Funimation, however it is unclear whether it will be released in theaters or streamed exclusively on the platform.
