Will There Be A 'Teasing Master Takagi-san' Season 3?
'Teasing Master Takagi-san' AKA 'Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san' is one of the most wholesome slice of life anime to ever grace the Earth. It follows a young boy named Nishikata, as he has to deal with his pesky “desk neighbor” Takagi-san and her teasing tendencies.
The series revolves around a romance story that our main guy Nishikata doesn’t really know is happening.
With the incredibly cute ending to season two, there must be a season three on the way…right? Well my friend, it’s not as easy as that.
Spoilers For 'TMT' Seasons 1 & 2; and Manga + Spinoff
Short Answer
At the time of the creation of this post, there is currently no official announcement for a third season of Teasing Master Takagi-san.
However, parts of the manga have not been adapted yet, and the story is still continuing. In fact, Nishikata and Takagi-san’s relationship continues to build with each chapter. It must also be noted that the anime adaptation tells the story out of sequence from the manga.
Each chapter is a different story, and each episode pulls from different chapters of the manga. As for that season two ending at the summer festival, in the manga, it has not even happened yet. This was an original episode for the anime.
The manga has been building up their relationship, and things like a fishing trip and kiss (Nishikata doesn’t know if it happened, but she definitely landed one) have occurred in the non-adapted chapters.
Long Answer
There is no confirmation for a third season about our favorite anime couple: “Tagikata.” Despite this, it can be assumed that the anime would pick up on the manga chapters that it hasn’t adapted.
Additionally, there is also a spin-off series that is running at the same time, and it is called 'Karakai Jouzu no (moto) Takagi-san.' This translates into 'Skilled Teaser (Former) Takagi-san,' and it follows adult versions of Nishikata and Takagi, and their young daughter named Chi.
Yes, Nishikata and Takagi get married and have a daughter! While the first series follows their relationship in school, the second is about them being a young family.
If the show runners decide to not continue 'TMT,' I wouldn’t be surprised if they chose to do a third season about them in the future. The adult Takagi actually made a cameo appearance in a cut scene during episode 7 of the second season!
It would also make sense if they kept adapting it the way they have been; and do everything out of sequence from the manga. This would mean, incorporating the older and younger versions of Nishikata and Takagi in different episodes.
While there might be no confirmation of a third season, there is definitely a lot of material that can be adapted to make one. In my opinion, I think they could even go beyond a third season and do a fourth.
Season two ended in a way that gives the show runners the opportunity to expand Tagikata’s relationship beyond “if you blush, you lose.” In the manga, there have already been inklings that Nishikata might finally realize that he has loved Takagi the whole time. While brief, these moments are very present, and the mangaka would’ve not included it, if it was not important.
My recommendation is to read both mangas to see what the newest developments in the series are. Much of the character personality traits stay the same, but both Takagi and Nishikata seem to be getting closer to officially confessing. Surely when they do, it would rip the fabric of anime space time wide open, and nothing but wholesomeness would prevail on Earth.
We know they end up getting married; but when and how did they finally make it to that point? It’s clear that the manga still has a ways to go, and the anime is poised to tell more of it on screen. Let’s hope for the best, and pray we get an announcement soon!
