Will There Be A 'High Score Girl' Season 3?

'Hi Score Girl' Season 2 released on April 9th on Netflix in the US, and fans are already wondering when the third season is happening!
Hi Score Girl is an anime series based off the era of arcade games. The show centers on Haruo Yaguchi and Akira Ono, as they navigate feelings of love, romance, and competitive gaming. Season two wrapped up the entire series in a total of nine episodes. Will there be a Season 3?

Hi Score Girl Season 2 ended with a bang! Ono was on the plane to leave for America when they ran into “technical difficulties.” This caused the plane to turn around, and land back at the airport. All the while, Haruo was racing through the streets on his bike, to see Ono at the airport. Call it luck, but they were able to reunite and properly say goodbye to each other. However, this was not the most surprising thing to happen in this scene.
Haruo was finally able to confess his true feeling to Ono. Over the course of the series, Haruo constantly misinterpreted advances from Koharu and Akira. In the final scene he finally acknowledges his feelings for Ono, and they share a nice (but sad) moment together.

Now that we know what happens at the end, the question remains: What happens next? Are we getting a Season 2?
For starters, Hi Score Girl is based off a manga of the same name. Here comes the big part…
The High Score Girl manga concluded in 2018, and the anime has already covered all the source material. It’s highly likely that we won’t be getting a third season. But wait, there’s more.
In 2019, mangaka Rensuke Oshikiri, began a spin-off series called 'High Score Girl DASH’! This manga takes place years in the future (2007), and follows the the life of Koharu Hidaka as a thirty year old teacher. At the time of writing this post, the story in the manga is only beginning, so it’s hard to say where this story could end up taking us.

Much of the plot centers around Koharu’s job as a teacher, and her being a single woman. Tonally, it’s very different than the original 'High Score Girl' as it plays with themes of loneliness and stagnation.
Also, the manga has not said anything about Haruo and Ono. The last time we see truly see them, is at the end of 'High Score Girl'. It’s possible that one day we could see the “DASH” story with an anime adaptation, but that would have to be sometime in the distant future.
Adding my own two cents, judging from the success of the Hi Score Girl anime, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rensuke Oshikiri picked up the pen, and wrote one last story for Haruo and Ono.
For now we have DASH. I would say it’s likely that in this story of “self-discovery” for Hidaka, we could see what happens to “HaruOno” in the future. After all, the series did end with a statement that seemed like another adventure for Haruo and Ono was to begin.
TL;DR
The manga and anime for High Score Girl are completed. The main story is over. The likelihood for a third season is very low, however Hidaka has a spin-off manga that takes place in 2007. It has been running since the end of 2019, and could one day be adapted into an anime.
